    Review for Mermaid's Kiss, A

Reviewer Comments: Anna is a mermaid, a descendant of Arianne, aware of her family history and the fact she will die before her twenty-first birthday. So she enjoys swimming the world’s seas discovering untold treasures and simple enjoyments such as swimming with a pod of whales or dolphins. Until one day her world is upturned by the falling body of Jonah, an angel, who is the Lady’s Prime Legion Commander.

Jonah has been injured in battle and one of his wings has been sliced off. Anna rescues Jonah but Jonah does not want to be rescued as he feels jaded and angry at the world. But Anna decides this could be the poison of the Dark Ones that has infested his body when they sliced his wing and decides to save him. Jonah manages to convince Anna that Joining Magic will help him to heal and Anna accepts this method of healing. Anna then speaks with her friend Mina, who helps the pair on their way to Nevada to find the shaman who will help Jonah heal his physical and emotional wounds. The pair must also avoid the Dark Ones on their journey.

This story is beautifully written and packed with description and feeling. As I read, I wondered what image I could use to describe Ms Hill’s writing and I thought of chocolate. Those times when you sit and savor your favorite chocolate, when you nibble a square to keep it as long as possible, or you eat the whole square to savor the chocolate explosion in your mouth. It is an unforgettable experience. I understood, and felt, the innocence and strength in Anna, and the despair and anger in Jonah as characters, both, at times, felt so real. There is an undeniable chemistry and sensuality between these two characters. The reader can also feel that Jonah is better than most heroes at denying what he feels. This is one pairing that is meant to be. These characters come together at the end of the story in a scene that is dramatic, heartrending and heartfelt and shows what can only be a true, soul binding love.
